India’s Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Environment, Forest and Climate Change called for the provision of Early Warning Systems on climate change to every country while outlining India’s pioneering climate action initiatives at India Global Forum’s Annual Summit 2023

New Delhi, March 27 2023: Organised on the theme of ‘Setting the Pace’, India Global Forum (IGF)’s Annual Summit witnessed an insightful address by Hon. Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Labour and Employment, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The minister spoke about the need for mindful and deliberate action to protect and preserve the environment and also talked about the government’s Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LiFE).

In his Keynote entitled Reflections on LiFE – India’s Path to Green Growth, Hon. Bhupender Yadav said: “India has achieved its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), committed in 2015, nine years ahead of time. We also achieved our target of generating 165 gigawatts of renewable energy in 2021 as per our 2015 commitments and have submitted our enhanced NDCs.
“India has invested in the renewable sector and our capacity for renewables is increasing at a much higher rate than other nations. We have also agreed to reserve 30 per cent of the land and sea areas to preserve biodiversity and have declared 16 areas as biodiversity hotspots. When it comes to climate change, we want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.”

The minister shared insights on Mission LiFE aimed at promoting “mindful consumption rather than mindless utilisation”. He also spoke about balancing industrialisation with preserving biodiversity and outlined India’s focal points for the COP28 climate summit later this year. In this regard, he spoke about negotiations on Loss and Damages, new quantifiable goals and on Article 6, related to the carbon credit markets. He reiterated calls for the developed nations to fulfil their commitments towards the USD 100bn climate finance fund and associated technology transfer.

Against the backdrop of India’s ascendency on the world stage, IGF’s flagship Summit presented a stellar line up of business leaders, policymakers, founders and investors and helped bring forth opinions, dialogues, discussions, and deliberations on the issues that matter today.

Thanking delegates at the Annual Summit, Prof. Manoj Ladwa, Founder and Chairman of India Global Forum said: “It’s heartening to see that India’s increasing leadership in climate technology innovation and is a powerful testament to the country’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis.”
“A new clean tech company is conceived in India every day. At India Global Forum, we work to support clean tech companies forge impactful global partnerships.”

Encompassing 30 themes, 35+ concurrent roundtables, and 500+ participants, IGF’s Annual Summit analysed diverse perspectives and expert views on how India is “Setting the Pace” for the global economy.
