UK’s Leader of the Labour Party to open India Global Forum’s 5th annual UK-India Week in June 2023.

Sir Keir Starmer, Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Labour Party has said it is time to look to the future and deepen ties between India and Britain. Starmer’s appeal comes ahead of his scheduled speech at India Global Forum’s (IGF) 5th Annual UK-India Week on 26th June.

UK-India Week 2023 is a five-day series of events that brings together entrepreneurs, policymakers, and thought leaders from India and the UK to discuss and explore opportunities for further collaboration and growth.

“I am looking forward to speaking at India Global Forum,” Starmer enthused.  Underscoring’s Labour’s “long and strong relationship with India,” Starmer called for widening co-operation in mutually beneficial sectors. “The time has now come to look to the future and work on how we can deepen and widen our cooperation in critical areas such as trade and investment, technology and innovation, climate action, diversity and inclusion, and healthcare, the future of work, skills and education – all areas where I see huge scope for mutual benefit.”

Starmer’s intervention at India Global Forum will mark his first comprehensive policy vision for India and outline the Labour Party’s roadmap for engaging with the world’s largest democracy and fastest growing economy. As the Starmer-helmed Labour seeks to reset ties with India, his speech will be keenly watched for insights into his economic and geo-political outreach and his continued efforts to bridge the perceived gap between India and the Labour Party.

Welcoming his participation, Prof. Manoj Ladwa, Founder & Chairman of India Global Forum, said: “I believe its timely that Sir Keir will be opening UK-India Week this year. We are at a critical juncture, and so his participation underscores the importance of the need for a bipartisan approach to the relationship with India. Given the ups and downs in Labour’s ties with India in recent years, I am sure his intervention at India Global Forum will be eagerly awaited, and in my view, much needed.”
