UK's Political Intolerance

Boris Johnson last week, and hard left Jeremy Corbyn & Ken Livingstone this week. Where are we heading?

Certainly not the way we would expect leaders to behave. In the space of a few weeks we have seen an ugly side to UK politics which is certainly not the best advert of the maturity and resilience of the worlds oldest democracy.

The concerns of anti-semitism, anti Hindu (some are already referring to it as ‘Hinduphobia’) and anti Sikh bias and far left extremism prevailing under the current leadership of the Labour Party are not going to go away, whatever the results of Thursday’s elections.

If the thinking of Jeremy Corbyn, Ken Livingstone et al is that by such behaviour and attitudes in public life they are somehow doing a favour to Sadiq Khan, they are wrong.

All political parties have problems with the way in which the work and deal with different community groups. Boris Johnson’s half-Kenyan attack on President Obama just fuels the perception of a dark intolerance that lurks beneath some parts of the UK’s political establishment.

All round – sad and shameful.
